Conditions Treated at Stine Chiropractic Clinic in Fredericksburg, VA

Neck Pain
Neck pain is a common complaint and can be caused by accident or injury, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs and other associated conditions. Triggers can be holding one position for an extended amount of time such as painting a ceiling, poor posture, or a sports injury. The pain can be a nagging ache or be severe shooting pains in the neck, or neck and arm.

When this pain gets in the way of your everyday life it’s necessary to get evaluated and treated to avoid progression into a chronic condition. The doctors at Stine Chiropractic are here for you to let them evaluate and treat your specific condition today!

Back Pain
80 percent of Americans will have back pain at least once in their lifetime. This usually results in time missed from work. Structural problems may also result in back pain such as bulging disc, ruptured disc, degenerative disc disease, leg length discrepancies and others that cause your body to compensate in ways it shouldn’t have to.

Here at Stine Chiropractic the doctors work with you to find your diagnosis and the best up to date treatment to prevent progression through palliative modalities and active rehabilitation services.

Headaches & Migraines

Headaches can vary from mild aching to severe debilitating pain, that can be on both or one side of the head. They tend to last anywhere from 30 minutes to days. There are neck conditions, muscle strains or spasms that will contribute or even cause your headaches. Some of the long list of headaches are: cluster headaches, sinus headaches, temporal arteritis, cervicogenic headaches, and tension headaches. There are also more serious conditions that can present with headache so it’s always important to have them evaluated.

Migraines and cluster headaches may have accompanied symptoms called a prodrome or aura.

  • Prodrome = a symptom indicative of an approaching disease. (Fatigue, malaise, lethargy, stiff neck, mood changes, anorexia, food cravings, chilled feeling, diarrhea or constipation, fluid retention, increased frequency of urination) Occur 24-48 hrs prior to HA onset. A prodrome may be associated with a number of different headaches and/or systemic diseases.
  • Aura = focal neurological (sensory, motor, language) symptoms typically evolving over a period of 5 to 60 minutes (usually < 20 min). They usually proceed a headache but onset of the aura may occur simultaneously with the onset of the pain, and some patients experience aura without headache Most auras are associated with the visual system {flashes of color, wavy lines, shimmering spots, scintillations, visual distortions, hallucinations, or visual loss} or auditory disturbances {unusual sounds or tinnitus, sometimes hearing loss}, however the patient may experience paresthesias, hemiparesis (paralyzed on one side of the body), aphasia (inability to make spoken phrases), hypersensitivity, hypoesthesia (decrease in the ability to touch), ataxia (unable to walk), change in level of consciousness, diplopia (double vision), vertigo, etc.

A pathognomonic sign of migraine is a certain type of aura called a Fortification Spectra. In fortification spectra, first the vision blurs, and then there appears a slowly expanding paracentral scotoma (blind spot), surrounded by luminous scintillating geometric forms, which enlarges and moves laterally until it disappears outside the peripheral vision. This takes between 10-30 minutes.

Other less serious headaches like cervicogenic and tension headaches can be brought on by stress and prolonged or sustained postures. These occur more often in females. Tension type is usually on both sides and the pain can be described as a squeezing sensation in a headband like distribution. Cervicogenic headaches are caused by the bones in the cervical spine and symptoms are increased with certain motions.

Treatment used may be physical therapy modalities, getting rid of any triggers, or taking steps to reduce stress. If you have never tried chiropractic care, you owe it to yourself to see a chiropractor to help manage your pain.

Myalgia / Fibromyalgia
If you have muscle pain, you may take medication for the symptom but it never really dissipates completely. This may further cause you to feel your energy is drained, some depression, and in some cases inability to work or play. Left to continue over time the myalgia may become a chronic condition and more difficult to find the cause and provide a remedy.

Your condition may be due to an infection; Lyme disease, influenza, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, etc. Drug related; statins, fibrates, ACE inhibitors, etc. Blood tests may be necessary in these instances. Diet analysis may also be beneficial.

Stine Chiropractic Clinic is equipped to help you find the answer to your health problems so you don’t have to live with the pain.

Herniated Disc
Healthcare professionals do not always agree on which term to use to describe the disc involvement that may cause significant back pain or radiating leg or arm symptoms. You may have heard the terms herniated disc, pinched nerve, sciatica, bulging disc, slipped disc, or ruptured disc to describe your symptoms.

The most common disc injury is the lumbar region of the spine because this is the area that carries most of the load bearing compression. Your body also leaves this area exposed to disc protrusion because the posterior ligamentous tissues taper off as it gets into the lumbar spine. With a protrusion prognosis is the best because the inner disc material has not exited outside of the fibrous outer rings. The extrusion prognosis is slightly different due to the disc material making it out farther than the protrusion leaving an inflammatory response at the nerve root causing you distal leg symptoms. The doctors at Stine Chiropractic Clinic are equipped with the experience and tools to get you the symptom relief you desire typically within 2 weeks depending on the type of discal problem (protrusion-bulge or extrusion-rupture). It’s important to get in as soon as symptoms start to get the best prognosis and response period.

Orthopedics & Sports Injuries
Orthopedic conditions are injuries that can be caused by everyday life or sports activities. These conditions stem from injuries of various tissues in the body including: tendons, ligaments, muscles, nerves, and bone. Conditions originating from these tissues can be helped along by physical therapy modalities found at Stine Chiropractic Clinic, as well as education and specific mechanisms of the condition, allowing you to prevent further injury.

I have suffered from lower-back pain for quite a while. This is the first Chiropractic clinic that has provided sustained results and solutions. The staff is extremely friendly and professional! Dr. Stine (both father and son) are great at what they do and I could not recommend them enough. If Dr. Stine recommends a Roman chair - do it. That device requires some dedication and discipline, but it's done wonders strengthening my lower back. Dr. Stine takes the time to specifically break down issues and recommendations, which is great for understanding the injuries.Definitely an awesome chiropractic clinic and I recommend them! Separately, ensure your insurance is taken at the clinic. The front desk has done a great job at making everything gets processed smoothly.

In May of 2020, I thought I had pulled a muscle in my back. Even my primary care physician said I did. Well, when the pain got worse and I couldn't take it, I decided to visit a Chiropractor. I read reviews for all of the ones in Fredericksburg, and came across Dr. Larry Stine. When I called to make an appointment they were able to see me the very next day. That was the best call I could have ever made. Dr. Stine listened to me and showed he really cared and wanted me to get better He told me he was confident that I had ruptured a disc. My heart sank. All I have been told about ruptured discs up to that point was: "you'll have to get the shot" or "you're going to have to get surgery for it to feel better". He told me not to worry too much and explained my situation. I felt so confident be cause he knew so much and I could tell he was really passionate about his field. The MRI confirmed it was a ruptured disc. I had certainly done a number on myself. He said I could go for the shot (which I immediately said no to, mostly because I couldn't imagine getting a needle in my spine for temporary relief) and that he didn't recommend surgery. When he explained the disc, given time can heal, I was more than ready to give it a try. He was honest and said it wouldn't happen over night, but reassured me I was over the worst of the pain. Within the first 6 visits I was walking better and noticed improvement. As the treatments continued I was able to sit in a chair, then sit in the front seat of the car, and now drive. I am still around 85% recovered, but am still noticing improvements and am confident I will make it back to 100% while avoiding surgery or a giant needle being stabbed into my spine. I think back to where I was and am so thankful I went to Dr. Stine. His staff is also amazing! They're excellent at what they do and care just as much as he does. If you are having back pains, go visit him because I promise you won't regret it.

I've been suffering from headaches and back pain for years, thought it may just be bad genes. I've gotten all the steroid shots, the muscle relaxers, even been to the ER a few times because of the unbearable pain... they did nothing for the root of my back issues! Dr. Christopher Stine is very intelligent and experienced. Explained to me things that even the people in the ER couldn't even explain. He truly knows his stuff and guess what... no more headaches or back issues!! My God I never thought this day would come. I seriously owe Stine Chiropractic Clinic for giving me my life back. Stick with the treatment program and you will not be disappointed or leave without results.

The Stine Chiropractic Clinic In Fredericksburg, VA I would recommend it to anyone with orthopedic discomfort due to injuries or arthritis as well as any muscle or nerve pain. I have been to Dr. Stine's Clinic for back pain, knees and shoulder injuries. Beside the treatment, Dr. Stine, is the physician that would emphasize the nutrition being a major part of healing and wellbeing. Whole Plant -Based Nutrition Food (Diet) that he encourages to be implemented it, that, works without counting the calories or extensive workout. As a senior, after a few sessions of the treatment, I am back to my normal activities. I could walk about two miles on different terrain/ landscape, swim for an hour, 4-6 times a week, gardening, beside my household responsibilities. The Clinic has professional employees, and time to get to the treatment is less than 5 minutes to the appointment schedule.

I recently retired and have been seeing Dr. Stine for 6 months. Dr. Stine is a great practitioner as well as a teacher. He just doesn't treat you, he teaches you about what is going on in your body. This not only benefits in faster recuperation, but help you avoid future problems. The office is technologically up to date. His staff is very friendly, and the receptionist, Lynn, went over and above expectations via her efforts to save me money by checking and re-checking my payment options between Medicare and company provided benefits. Central location and convenient hours. My wife sees him too.

I first visited Dr. Stine several years ago, after a neurologist recommended that I visit a neurosurgeon for issues from a bicycle accident. After reviewing my case, Dr. Stine felt confident that I should not need surgery. Dr. Stine has gotten me back to doing all activities and pain free. When asked what I can do at home to complement his treatments, Dr. Stine recommended that I purchase an Xodus Roman Chair/ 45 degree hyperextension bench, which cost approx. $120. At first, it seemed like an odd piece of equipment, but I bought it anyway, willing to do my part. Now, I use the chair once or twice a day. If I am away from home, I begin to miss my chair exercises, because they help my back so much. Any time I feel back pain or after hard exercise, I spend a few minutes on the chair. You'll find Dr. Stine and his staff very friendly and helpful.

Dr. Stine is not a chiropractor but a wizard who fixes even most severe cases brought to him. Despite continued athletic activity with a cracked and misaligned back he managed to realign and relieve the knotting I experienced there. Not only that but the staff was amicable, professional and helpful with care and scheduling. Would recommend to anyone suffering from chronic chiropractic needs.
